BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team set a Conference USA record on Saturday in its 71-69 victory at UTSA. Seniors Takia Brooks and Shanequa Schrouder made back-to-back 3-pointers midway through the second half to tie and break the C-USA record for most 3-pointers in a season.

The Owls (15-13, 5-10 C-USA) have made 234 treys this season, breaking the record of 233 held by DePaul in the 2002-03 season. FAU also holds the record for most 3-pointers in league play with 135, breaking UAB's record from 2006-07.

Brooks had 24 points in the game to lead the Owls, who guaranteed themselves a .500 season with the victory. The Miami native made three 3-pointers and was 9-of-10 from the free throw line.

Senior Latavia Dempsey scored nine of FAU's first 11 points in the game en route to her 15 points while Schrouder added nine. Freshman Shaneese Bailey had another strong outing on the boards, leading the Owls with eight rebounds to go along with her seven points.

FAU never trailed throughout the game and led by as many as 14 in the second half. UTSA would cut it to a three-point advantage with ten seconds left, but Dempsey iced the game with a free throw.

The Owls return home to host UTEP on Wednesday, March 5 at the Burrow on Senior Night. FAU will recognize six seniors for their careers with a tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. For ticket information, visit FAUSports.com or call 1-866-FAU-OWLS.
