BOCA RATON, Fla. - Freshman Kat Wright scored a career-high 16 points as the Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team fell to Middle Tennessee State 83-77 on Saturday in Boca Raton.
The Owls (13-11, 3-8 C-USA) posted the second-highest amount of points scored on the Blue Raiders this season. FAU drained 12 3-pointers in the bout, including three from Wright.
Kimberly Smith continued her fantastic season, scoring 20 points with nine rebounds. The Minneola, Fla. native has made 71 3-pointers on the year, extending her FAU single-season record. Senior Takia Brooks also reached double figures, scoring ten points with three assists.
MTSU (21-4, 10-1 C-USA) went on a 16-3 run midway through the first half and went up by 14 with 5:40 left in the half. FAU would end the half on a 17-5 run to cut the lead to tie the game just before the break.
The two teams battled back and forth in the second half in a game that saw 14 lead changes and 12 ties. The Owls went up by one on a Smith layup with 3:40 to play, but solid free throw shooting by the Blue Raiders led MTSU to victory.
The Owls forced 16 turnovers and turned those into 22 points on the other end.
Ebony Rowe led MTSU with a season-high 32 points and 13 rebounds. Olivia Jones also had a double-double with 14 points and 13 boards.
