Smith made six 3-pointers in the loss

MIAMI, Fla. - Senior Kimberly Smith made six 3-pointers and freshman Shaneese Bailey earned her first career double-double as the Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team fell at rival FIU 76-72 on Saturday. Smith's performance marked the fifth consecutive game that a different player has led FAU in scoring.
The Owls (12-8, 2-5 C-USA) overcame a nine-point deficit in the first half to take a two-point lead into the intermission. FAU then went on a 9-0 run early in the second half to take its largest lead of the game at eight points with 13:13 remaining.
FIU (10-10, 4-3 C-USA) would piece together a 14-3 run in the closing minutes to take a six point lead with less than three minutes left. The Panthers made seven free throws over the final 2:19 to take the victory.
Smith, a native of Minneola, Fla., moved into second all-time at FAU in 3-pointers made with 159 in her career and missed her career-high in scoring by one point. Smith has made multiple 3-pointers in 18 of her 20 games on the season and has made at least one in 24 consecutive games.
Bailey posted 12 points and eight rebounds in the second half alone. She was also one point shy of tying her career high. Senior Takia Brooks also reached double-digit scoring, despite getting in foul trouble early. The Miami native finished the contest with 15 points and five assists.
