Boca Raton, FL - A career-high 32 points by senior guard Breana Turner couldn’t carry the Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball team to victory Wednesday night in a 90-86 loss to ULM at the FAU Arena.
The setback snapped the Owls’ 11-game home conference winning streak, and dropped the team to 10-10 on the season and 7-5 in Sun Belt Conference play.
Turner made 11 of her 19 field goals and 10 of 11 free throws to total her 32 points on the night. The New Orleans native also had a team-high seven rebounds in the losing effort.
A pair of free throws by Turner gave FAU a 28-22 lead midway through the first half. However, a 12-5 run over the next four minutes gave ULM a 34-33 advantage. The Warhawks took a 51-48 halftime lead and had an eight-point advantage, 60-52, with 17:04 left following a layup by Ashleigh Simmons.
The Owls tied the game at 82-82 with 3:06 remaining when junior guard Takia Brooks converted a layup. But, ULM (5-15, 3-8 Sun Belt) scored its final eight points at the free throw line, including two by Christina Gray with four second left to secure the victory.
FAU’s Brooks scored 12 points and had a game-high six assists, while junior guard Briah Blakely added 10 points.
Alexar Tuglar and Elexar Tuglar each scored 19 points to lead ULM. Simmons chipped in 14 points and had 12 rebounds. Alayshia Hunter and Gray had 12 and 11 points respectively.
