Florida Atlantic held a 40-31 halftime advantage, but saw the Mean Green trim the deficit to four points on three occasions. The latest time came after a three pointer from Loryn Goodwin with 14:30 left. However, FAU scored the next five points on a basket from Dempsey and a three-pointer by freshman guard Morgan Robinson to build a 59-50 at the 13:32 mark. The lead grew to 13 points with 10 minutes remaining, but the visitors used a 9-0 run to close within 64-60 with 7:39 left in the game.
The margin remained at four points before consecutive layups by Turner gave FAU a 71-63 lead with just under four minutes remaining. Turner scored 10 of the team’s final 12 points in the final four minutes.
The Owls held a 52-35 rebounding edge over North Texas, and FAU’s 21 offensive rebounds resulted in a 19-7 edge in second-chance points.
