NORFOLK, Va. - The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team suffered its second consecutive loss on Saturday, dropping a Conference USA game against Old Dominion 80-44 in Norfolk, Va.
The Owls (11-6, 1-3 C-USA) were tied with the Monarchs (9-9, 2-2 C-USA) with 7:48 left in the first half, but failed to connect on their next 17 field goal attempts. Shanequa Schrouder broke the streak at the 17:10 mark of the second half, but not before ODU had pulled ahead to an 18-point lead, a margin that FAU was unable to overcome.
The Monarchs increased their lead to 36 points with 5:50 remaining to extend their run to 39-13. FAU would get the lead down to 31 two minutes later before ODU tacked on the final four points of the game.
The Owls shot a season-low 9.6 percent from 3-point range, shooting 3-of-32 for the game and 1-of-17 in the second half. Senior Kimberly Smith made two treys en route to her nine points which tied freshman Shaneese Bailey for the team lead. Smith also had six rebounds while Bailey added four boards and four steals.
FAU will travel to face Louisiana Tech on Wednesday in Ruston, La. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Eastern. The Owls' next home game will be on Saturday, Jan. 25 against North Texas at 5 p.m.
