Bowling Green, KY - The Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball team lost its second straight game against Sun Belt Conference East Division leaders, falling to Western Kentucky University 86-68 on Saturday at E.A. Diddle Arena. The Owls are now 8-7 on the season and 5-2 in conference play.

Junior guard Kimberly Smith led three double-figure scorers with 18 points. Junior guard Takia Brooks added 16 points and junior forward Chenise Miller scored 11 points.

The Owls trailed 33-27 at the half, but the host Hilltoppers (13-3 overall, 6-1 Sun Belt) stretched the lead to 11 points, 43-32, after two free throws by Chastity Gooch with 16:36 left in the second half. The lead had grown to 58-41 by the 11:17 mark before FAU made a comeback. A 15-4 run over the next four minutes drew the visitors to within six points at 62-56. But that’s as close as the team would come to overtaking WKU.

Gooch led the Hilltoppers with 28 points and 11 rebounds. Bianca McGee scored 23 points and Alexis Govan had 20 points and 10 rebounds.

FAU returns to the court on Wednesday, January 16 at 7 p.m. when it hosts Troy University at the FAU Arena, 777 Glades Road on the Boca Raton campus.
