The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball struggled to put the ball in the basket on Saturday. The Owls shot just 26 percent (18-69) from the field in the game as Troy defeated FAU 74-59.
The Trojans started off red hot in the beginning, scoring 13 unanswered points in the first half. And after Amy Lewis hit a jumper, the Trojans had their biggest first half lead at 13-2. FAU would stay within range in the first, as Mercedes Thompson got a couple of buckets and the Owls would trail Troy 35-24 at halftime.
The Trojans continued their hot shooting in the second half. They shot 72 percent from the field and were a perfect four of four from three point land in the second half. Audrey Muse led Troy with 14 points, one of three Trojan players in double digits, Laura Lee Holman added 13 and Kylie Morrisey had 11 as Troy improved to 9-7, 2-3 in the Sun Belt.
FAU was led by Carla Stubbs, who had 15 points on seven on 19 shooting. Thompson added 13 in just her second game of action for the Owls. FAU shot well from the line, hitting 21 of their 26 shots. But they shot only two of 15 from beyond the arc and the Owls fall to 4-10, 0-5 in the Sun Belt.
FAU plays Western Kentucky on Thursday night. Tip-off is at 8 p.m. in Bowling Green, KY.
