JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Tamica Pierce had 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead Florida Atlantic University to a 58-55 victory over Jacksonville University Saturday afternoon in Jacksonville, FL. With the win, FAU improves to 4-9 overall and 2-0 in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

FAU fell behind 8-3 early before using a 15-2 run to lead 18-10. JU (2-10, 0-2 A-Sun) battled back to trail 22-21 before FAU closed the first half on a 14-1 run to take a 36-22 lead at halftime. Angie Rodgers scored all 14 of her points in the first half.

In the second half, the Lady Owls jumped out to their largest lead, 50-32, before JU slowly chipped away. A 23-5 run pulled the Dolphins within 57-55 with less than a minute left. A free throw by Crystal Boyland with 10 seconds left gave FAU a 58-55 lead as JU was unable to tie the game with its final possession.

Pierce and Rodgers were the only Lady Owls to finish in double-figures. FAU shot 33 percent while JU shot 39 percent. FAU was outrebounded 44-42. The Lady Owls went 5-for-12 from beyond the arc compared to JU's 3-for-14.

"I was proud of the way our defense held on at the end," said FAU head coach Chancellor Dugan. "It was pretty, but we'll take a conference victory on the road."

For the second straight game, FAU controlled the turnover department. The Lady Owls committed just 16 compared to JU's 21.

JU's Kat Sungy and Katie McDonald each had double-doubles. Sungy had 11 points and 13 rebounds while McDonald posted 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Florida Atlantic next hosts Troy State University January 16 at 7:00pm.
