Murfreesboro, TN - The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team dropped its first Sun Belt Conference game with a 73-59 loss at Middle Tennessee State University on Wednesday night in the Murphy Center. The Owls now stand in a three-way tie for first place in the East Division with a 5-1 league record.
FAU trailed the Blue Raiders (10-5, 5-1 Sun Belt) 39-37 with 14:14 remaining before the hosts went on a 15-0 run over the next five minutes to pull away in the conference showdown.
Junior forward Chenise Miller recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds in the game. Junior guard Takia Brooks scored 18 points and senior guard Breana Turner added 11 points.
The Owls used a 6-2 spurt over the final four minutes of the first half to trail Middle Tennessee 27-23 at the halftime break.
Both teams traded baskets for the first six minutes of a second half that featured three ties before the Blue Raiders pulled away.
Middle Tennessee was led by Ebony Rowe's 22 points and 15 rebounds. Icelyn Elie added 18 points, while Shanice Cason (14) and Kortni Jones (11) rounded out the team's double-figure scorers.
