BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University sophomore cross country runner Lachlan Shiver was recognized on Thursday to the 2017 InTouch Credit Union Conference USA All-Academic XC Team, as one of just six men league-wide to earn the honor.
Shiver sports a 3.963 GPA while majoring in biology and being consistently near the top of the FAU men’s results week in and week out, not to mention lowering his personal best time each meet. He was first across the line for the Owls, and placed 10th overall, at the season-opening FAU Invitational, running the 5K in 16:16. Next, at Florida’s Mountain Dew Invite, he notched a new personal record in the 6K, of 28:02. He continued to lower his best in that race at the Disney Cross Country Classic, placing 28th in 27:57, and amazingly, sheared another 45 seconds off his 8K time, to 27:12, to finish 14th overall at the USF Invitational. Last but not least, at the 2017 C-USA Championship, he was sub-27 for the first time in college, another 17 seconds faster, to 26:55 for yet another PR.
“It is amazing that Lachlan's hard work and dedication to his sport and his schoolwork are being recognized,” said Head Coach Alex Smolka. “Apart from being a 3.96 GPA student, and a very good student-athlete, Lachlan is also a teaching assistant for the College of Science. I am very happy for him, and excited that all his hard work earned him a spot on this prestigious list of student athletes from across C-USA.”
Shiver and teammates on both the men’s and women’s sides are currently in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, prepping for Friday morning’s NCAA South Regional event. The men run the 10,000 meters at 11 a.m. EST Friday.
