KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University men's cross country squad finished second, and their women's counterparts third, at the 2017 Disney Cross Country Classic held at ESPN's Wide World of Sports on Saturday.  

Men's Notables:

  • The Owls placed second of five Division I squads, behind only Stetson, and five points ahead of Youngstown State
  • Jonathan Werble placed first on the team, and 22nd of those running as part of a school, in a time of 27:40 in the 8K
  • The next Owl was Lachlan Shiver, running a personal best of 27:57 for 28th among team runners
  • Sean Barone (28:14) and John Marting (28:22) were next, six slots apart 

Women's Notables:



  • Among eight DI women's squads, the Owls ranked third, 17 points better than UCF
  • First across the line was Christina Schultz, 21st in 19:25
  • Back to back, in 24th and 25th, were Liz Wellman (19:27) and Erica Lersch (19:29), the latter 42 seconds better than her previous PR
  • Also with a new best, in 33rd, was Sophia Clark (19:39) 

What's Next:

Next Friday evening, Oct. 13, the men and women will compete in the regular season finale for each. They will travel to Tampa for the USF Invitational.
