BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University men’s tennis head coach Ricardo Gonzalez announced the signing of blue chip recruit Kirac Bekisoglu. Bekisoglu, a native of Turkey now residing in Plantation, Fla., will join the Owls as a freshman in 2018-19.
“I chose FAU because of the coaching staff and players who were all very nice,” Bekisoglu said. “Since day one, Coach Gonzalez was very honest with me and I really respected that. I also have a Turkish friend studying at FAU right now and she spoke very highly about the school. I liked the environment a lot and it's location is perfect; needless to say, I will be close to my home.”
Bekisoglu owns a career-high ITF ranking of 183 and a UTR rating of 13.62. He was the champion of the Coral Gables G4 ITF in singles and won the Trinidad G4 ITF in both singles and doubles play. Bekisoglu has also been a finalist at the International Grass Courts ITF and the Barbados G4 ITF in 2016 and 2017.
“Kirac is one of the highest recruited prospects in the country and I am humbled, to say the least, that he committed to us,” Gonzalez said. “Aside from Kirac’s game, which is phenomenal, I was most impressed with his character and the way he carried himself. Kirac was always very polite and respectful throughout the process and this goes a long way. For me, this is a priority, aside from only recruiting talent. I am confident that Kirac will blend in smoothly with our culture of excellence. I am looking forward to helping him develop personally off the court as well as physically on the court.”
