BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Florida Atlantic University freshman Ignacio Garcia has moved into the ITA men's tennis singles rankings at No. 96, becoming the second Owl to be ranked in as many years.
Garcia, a native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, owns a 5-3 singles mark this season, including a 6-2, 6-3 win over No. 69 Zvonimir Babic in the Southern Intercollegiates on Sept. 9. Two of his losses have come to opponents ranked in the top 45. Garcia crafted his best tournament of the fall at the Bedford Cup where he battled his way to the quarterfinals.
"I am extremely happy for Nachi for cracking the rankings," FAU Head Coach Ricardo Gonzalez said. "This is not an easy task to do as a freshman. His maturity, hard work, discipline, and determination helped him improve and perform at a high level. I am sure this is only the beginning of something special for him. We will continue to work and get better."
