Boca Raton, FL -
After seeing his Florida Atlantic University tennis teammates have success this fall, sophomore Sean Bacha is ready to join in the fun on the court and be a key contributor for the Owls' 2012-13 season.
The Port Orange, Fla., native specializes in singles play during the fall and spring seasons, and is preparing to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Southeast Regional in Tallahassee, Fla., from October 18-22.
"I want to be in the singles lineup more consistently this season," said Bacha, who won six singles matches and played in 12 of the team's 21 dual matches last year. "In my second college season, I have a better understanding of the expectations - by my teammates and coach. If you give everything on the court, I believe that better results will come."
The fall season offers opportunities for players to showcase their talents and earn individual recognition, while team play is emphasized during the spring.
"As a team, we're having a strong fall so far, and that has definitely motivated me to improve to match my teammates' successes," said Bacha, a biology major. "College tennis is filled with high energy and passion -- on and off the court. Each match is important. A win in a No. 5 or No. 6 singles match is just as important as a decision at the top of the lineup. It takes a total team effort to be a successful team during the spring season."
No matter where he plays in the singles lineup, Bacha hopes to help FAU be a strong contender for the 2013 Sun Belt Conference championship.
"All of the players are committed to our team goals - winning the conference title and going to the NCAA tournament," he said. "My individual goals are to contribute as a singles player more consistently this season."
