Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis players will test their skills against some of the state's top opponents while competing in this weekend's State of Florida Tennis Championships in Tampa. Matches will begin on Friday, September 23 and continue through Sunday, September 25.
"We learned a great deal about competing at the collegiate level and what it takes to be successful every moment," said Brandon Stokes, FAU's head men's tennis coach. "We learned about ourselves and started to form an identity."
Last weekend, six FAU players had their first career matches for the Owls in the University of Florida's Gator Invitational. Junior Taylor Albrecht teamed with freshman Will Neuner to pick up a victory in doubles. Albrecht also had a straight-set singles win to pace the team's performances in the season-opening event.
Freshman Robert Dubuque earned a three-set singles victory over UCF's Eugene Dolgovyh, and Neuner played well in the invitational, dropping two hard-fought three-set matches to USF and UCF opponents.
