Boca Raton, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis program has concluded its recruiting class for the 2011-12 season with transfer Chris Janssen of Deerfield Beach.
Janssen, who attended Florida State University for his freshman season, signed a National Letter of Intent to participate in athletics as an Owl. He joins a recruiting class that features five Florida signees and one Texas product.
Jansen is familiar with FAU and is glad to continue is tennis career near his hometown.
"I grew up in the area and love the weather. This is the best place to train and compete for tennis," said Janssen. "I know that Coach (Brandon) Stokes can help me get the most of out of my tennis game, and I can help him and my teammates take FAU to new heights."
Janssen added: "Family is important to me and it will be nice being near them again. FAU is growing, with the new on-campus football stadium, and I'm excited to help build something meaningful for the men's tennis program."
Head Coach Brandon Stokes feels this is the right time for Janssen to join the squad, stating: "I have been watching Chris for several years. He is a talented young man with a good mind and spirit. The timing is right for him to be an Owl and for me to have the opportunity to teach and coach him. We have many things to prove and together it's going to be a fun, challenging and rewarding journey."
FAU is coming off its third consecutive winning season, with a 12-10 record, and advanced to the semifinals of the conference championships for the third straight year.
