Boca Raton, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis program has added another talented young player to the program for the 2011-12 season. Jake Rother, a doubles semifinalist in the Texas high school tournament and one of the state's top junior players, recently signed a National Letter of Intent to participate in athletics at the NCAA Division I university.
Rother, of Spring Ranch, Texas, has been ranked in the top 25 among Texas players in the 14-, 16- and 18-year-old age divisions. He also was a doubles semifinalist in Texas Summer Grand Slam events in the 16- and 18-year-old divisions.
"I chose FAU because of its great location and weather. I also loved the fact that the team is very close," said Rother. "Finally, (FAU) Coach Brandon Stokes is a fantastic coach who will be able to take my game to the next level."
Stokes also is excited to bring Rother to Boca Raton and believes the player will help FAU remain competitive in the Sun Belt Conference and against nationally-ranked opponents on the fall and spring schedules.
"I am honored Jake is an Owl. He is enthusiastic, driven, determined and humble, while also being a selfless teenager," said Stokes. "He is a talented tennis player who has only scratched the surface of his true abilities. We are better with Jake on our team and in our program. I am eager to watch him soar throughout his college career."
FAU is coming off its third consecutive winning season, with a 12-10 record, and advanced to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference championships for the third straight year.
