MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team will open the Conference USA Tournament Friday, April 21 at 11 a.m. ET in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
The Owls will be the No. 3 seed, the highest seed in program history, after a 17-6 season which also marks the third most victories in program history. FAU will take on sixth-seed Southern Miss in the opening round in the first meeting between the two teams this season.
FAU has seen enormous success this season from its top competitors. Senior Andrei Morin-Kougoucheff enters the tournament ranked No. 124 in the nation in singles play with his 11-6 record and a pair of wins over ranked opponents. Junior Remi Chancerel, a three-time C-USA Athlete of the Week, holds the best record in the league at 18-2 at No. 2 singles. Anthony Schohn boasts a 14-6 record while Arthur Stefani sits at 11-7. Ignacio Jimenez, named to the C-USA All-Academic Team earlier in the week, owns a 12-6 record. In doubles action, Morin-Kougoucheff and Chancerel are 11-6 on the year in the No. 1 slot while Alexander Gitin and Schohn have seen a 7-3 mark in No. 3 doubles. Felipe Frias and Stefani also hold a winning record at 5-4 in the No. 2 slot.
With a win Friday, the Owls would take on the winner of No. 2 Old Dominion and No. 7 UAB at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday. The Championship match is slated for noon on Sunday, April 23.
