Senior Marc Abdelnour and the Owls enter the Sun Belt Conference Championships as the No. 2 seed and play Western Kentucky on Thursday

Boca Raton, Fla. - Reaping the rewards for a strong spring season, the Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team has earned the No. 2 seed for this week's Sun Belt Conference Championships. The Owls are scheduled to face No. 7 seed Western Kentucky University in a first-round match on Thursday, April 21, in Mobile, Ala.
FAU, which has advanced to the semifinals in each of the past four years, enters the tournament with an 11-9 record and regular-season dual match victories over conference opponents Troy University and University of South Alabama.
The boys are excited for what is ahead of us," said Brandon Stokes, FAU's head men's tennis coach. "We have a lot to prove. This is why we train. This is why we improve. "This is why we are at FAU for a chance to win conference. Our three seniors will continue to lead us."
Senior Marc Abdelnour is one of the top singles players in the Sun Belt Conference with a 26-6 record, including a stellar 17-3 mark at the No. 1 position, and is ranked No. 114th in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. He has teamed with fellow senior Ervin Garibovic to go 15-8 in doubles matches. The Aleppo, Syria native is FAU's career leader for singles and total victories.
Freshman Oliver Webb ranks second on the team with 14 victories, while Garibovic has added 12 wins this season. Garibovic is 9-7 in No. 2 singles matches. Senior Daniel Vardag has won six of his eight matches at the No. 3 position. Meanwhile, freshmen Omar El Kheshen and Marc Wakim have posted an 8-4 record in doubles action, while also having winning marks in singles play. Junior Derek Madon rounds out the team's lineup for the tournament.
