BOCA RATON, FL - Victories over the weekend by Jose Fantova of men's tennis and Danielle Aromashodu of women's track have earned the pair Florida Atlantic University's student-athlete of the week honors.
Fantova helped lead the men's tennis team to a victory over Bethune-Cookman in its regular season finale. The senior earned a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles by dropping only two games. His effort helped lead a singles rally in a 4-3 victory on Sunday, April 7. Fantova teamed with Will Neuner to win 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.
The Owls will compete in the Sun Belt Conference Championship from April 17-20 in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Aromashodu's performance in the 400 meter hurdles at the University of Florida's Florida Relays on Friday, April 5 earned her first-place for the Sun Belt Conference's ranking in the 400m hurdles. The junior set Florida Atlantic's 400 meter hurdles record of 59:15 in 2011. Aromashodu finished in 13th-place at the Florida Relays with a final time of 59:57.
FAU's track team will compete at the University of Miami's Hurricane Alumni Relays on Saturday, April 13 before traveling back to Gainesville for the University of Florida's Tom Jones Memorial Invitational on Saturday, April 20.
