BOCA RATON, Fla. -Florida Atlantic University tennis freshman Ignacio Garcia will represent his home country of Puerto Rico in the 2018 Davis Cup starting Feb. 3 in Tijuana, Mexico.
"Ignacio is about to compete in one of the most prestigious events in the world," FAU Head Coach Ricardo Gonzalez said. "Playing in the Davis Cup is something every tennis player dreams of, and it is an experience that he will cherish for the rest of his life. He seems to raise his game a notch every time he represents Puerto Rico. He has been putting in the work on and off the court and I am confident that he and his team will have a successful weekend in Mexico."
Garcia, a native of San Juan, has earned five singles wins and four doubles victories in his debut collegiate season, including a run to the singles quarterfinals of the 2017 Bedford Cup. He is currently ranked No. 96 in singles play by the ITA. Garcia is joined on his national team by fellow countrymen Sebastian Arcila and Alex Diaz.
