Boca Raton, FL - A fall tournament title and a record-tying number of career singles victories have earned Florida Atlantic University senior men's tennis player Marc Abdelnour a regional ranking in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's preseason poll.
Abdelnour, who had a 9-3 record during the fall season, is ranked No. 16 in the ITA's southeast regional poll. The Syria native was one of six players from the Sun Belt Conference to receive preseason ranking.
"Marc's regional ranking is just the beginning for him heading into the spring season," said Brandon Stokes, FAU's head men's tennis coach. "His competitive fire is contagious and inspires everyone around him."
Abdelnour tied FAU's 71 career single victory record, shared with Doug Devriendt, after winning the University of Central Florida Fall Invitational in October 2010. He compiled a 1-1 record last fall against nationally ranked competition and advanced to the round of the top 32 players in the ITA southeast regional tournament.
"Marc's summer training and competitive schedule put him in a terrific position for a solid fall," said Stokes. "As one of our captains, he is ready to lead the team this spring."
The Owls will begin the dual match season against the University of Miami, ranked No. 44 nationally in the preseason poll, on Thursday, January 20 in Coral Gables.
