Orlando, FL - Two Florida Atlantic University men’s tennis doubles teams have advanced to the quarterfinal round of the USTA Clay Court Invitational at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando.

The team of senior Jose Fantova and sophomore Will Neuner defeated a duo from the University of Texas-San Antonio 9-8 in Friday’s first round match. The tandem won a tiebreaker by a 7-5 score to advance to play a team from Georgia Tech in Saturday’s quarterfinals.

FAU’s other doubles team, featuring sophomores Richard Meade and Sean Bacha, had a first-round bye and are set to face a Penn State University team.

Both FAU teams are competing in the same tournament bracket.

Meanwhile, among singles players, Meade has advanced to the quarterfinals of his bracket with a walkover victory over his Georgia Tech opponent. He will face Kiku Aulina from UCF on Saturday for a spot in the semifinals.

Neuner dropped a three-set match in the first round. He won the opening set against Florida State University’s Cristian Gonzalez Mendez by a 6-3 score, but lost the deciding third set by a 7-5 score. Fantova and Bacha also lost matches on Friday.
