Orlando, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team defeated conference rivals Jacksonville 6-1 in an exhibition dual match on Saturday morning. The contest was part of the UCF Invitational in Orlando.
The Dolphins took the doubles point thanks to victories in the top two positions. F.J. Schofield and Kevin Obletz fell 8-4 at the No. 1 spot while the team of David Demers and Eugenio Pellman fell 8-6 at the two position. Freshman Pellman is competing in his first ever collegiate event.
Mauricio Paiz and Gianfrano Dossena produced the only doubles win for the Owls as the sophomores won 8-3 against the team of Andrew Burks and Tarek Merchant.
After losing the doubles point, the Owls came back strong in the singles portion of the match, taking all six available points.
Schofield, Demers, Obletz, Dossena, Pellman and Paiz all won their matches in the one through six positions. Demers was the only Owl to drop a set.
The Owls will conclude play in Orlando on Sunday when they face hosts Central Florida in another exhibition dual match.
