Tallahassee, FL - Sophomore doubles teammates Will Neuner and Robert Dubuque advanced to the round of 16 to highlight performances by Florida Atlantic University men’s tennis players on Friday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Regional at Florida State University.
The Neuner-Dubuque tandem defeated a team from Florida Gulf Coast University 8-3 before losing to the tournament’s No. 3 seed for a spot in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, the team of senior Jose Fantova and sophomore Chris Janssen also split a pair of matches, earning an 8-6 triumph over a duo from the University of North Florida. Then, the Owls’ tandem lost 8-5 to a team from the University of Georgia.
In singles, Neuner suffered a first-round setback in three sets. He forced the deciding third frame with a 6-3 second-set triumph. Fantova lost an opening-round match by 6-3, 6-1 scores.
Sophomore Sean Bacha lost a hard-fought 6-4, 6-3 match in the finals of the qualifying round.
Tournament play continues through Monday, October 22.
