Murfreesboro, TN - The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team lost two 4-2 matches to begin play in the Sun Belt Shootout on Saturday, March 30. The Owls fell in their opener to No. 72-ranked Elon University before falling to Illinois State University.
Freshman Matthew Samberg defeated Elon's Carlos Arboleda in straight sets at No. 6 singles. Samberg did not drop a game in the opening set. He completed the victory with a 7-5 triumph in the second set.
Fellow freshman Andrei Morin-Kougoucheff lost only two games before his opponent retired on the third singles court.
In the second match, Morin-Kougoucheff won a three-set match at No. 3 singles. He won the deciding set by a 6-1 score after forcing the third set with a 6-2 score in the second frame. Senior Jose Fantova earned a straight-set 7-5, 6-4 score in the No. 1 singles match.
