Men's Tennis Notches A-Sun Win

Feb. 29, 2004

Orlando, FL - The bottom of Florida Atlantic University's lineup carried the Owls past Troy State University, 5-2, Sunday afternoon in Orlando, FL. F.J. Schofield, David Demers, Kevin Obletz, and Mauricio Paiz swept the 3, 4, 5, and 6 positions, respectively. The win improves FAU to 4-5 overall, and 1-2 in the Atlantic Sun conference.

The Owls began the day by snagging the doubles point. Cristian Paiz combined with Antonello Magris to win at no. 1, while Demers and Schofield paired for a victory at no. 3.

Schofield quickly gave FAU a 2-0 cushion that it would never relinquish, as the junior breezed by Robert Van Swelm, 6-3, 2-0, at no. 3. Schofield has won five consecutive singles matches.

Another hot player for the Owls is Mauricio Paiz. Paiz's, 6-4, 6-2, victory at no. 6 gives the freshman a 6-2 record at the position. Paiz has won three straight, and six out of his last seven matches.

FAU hosts Charleston Southern University, 2:00 pm March 5, in Boca Raton, FL.
