BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic men’s tennis beat Bethune Cookman 6-1 on Saturday, moving FAU to 4-3 on the season. The Owls looked impressive in their second home match of the season, winning five out of six singles matches and securing the doubles point by winning two out of three doubles matches.
Bethune Cookman could not push the Owls in singles competition with all but one FAU’s wins coming in straight sets. FAU Junior Richard Meade breezed through his match defeating Diego Garavito 6-1,6-1. FAU sophomore Andre Morin-Kougoucheff defeated Santiago Lobelo in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. FAU freshman Stefan Burnett defeated Pablo Lopez 6-2, 6-2 and FAU junior Will Neuner defeated Walid Gtrari 6-4, 6-3. FAU Junior Robert Dubuque was pushed to three sets before defeating Gilbert Rotich 6-5, 5-6, 10-3.
The FAU tandem of Morin-Kougoucheff and Will Neuner continued to play well together, moving to 5-2 on the season as a team after defeating Pablo Lopez and Gilbert Rotich in the one position in doubles. FAU Junior Robert Dubuque teamed with Gerald Nickerson to secure the doubles point by defeating Walid Gtari, and Alvaro Barrera 6-5.
FAU takes the court again Sunday Feb. 9, at 1p.m. in Boca Raton, against Florida Gulf Coast.
