BOCA RATON, Fla. (January 17, 2014) – Florida Atlantic University's men's tennis defeated Georgia Southern University 4-1 on Friday in Statesboro, GA. The win moves the Owls to 1-1 on the season, with two more opponents scheduled to play this weekend.
Florida Atlantic sophomores Andrei Morin-Kougcheff and Richard Meade won both singles and doubles matches to help the Owls to their first win of the 2014 season. Morin-Kougcheff won his singles match against GSU senior Oliver Webb 6-2, 2-6, and 6-2. In Doubles, he teamed with sophomore Will Neuner to defeat Oliver Webb and Nico DeGroof 6-3. Meade won his single's match against Kyle Hoffman 6-4 and 6-5. Meade teamed with Stefan Burnett to defeat Georgia Southern’s Kyle Hoffman and Rafael Racy 6-4. Florida Atlantic sophomore Sean Bacha downed Christian Kerrigan 6-5(8) and 6-4.
“I am extremely proud of our guys for picking up their first victory of the season and it was on the road,” said Ricardo Gonzalez, FAU's head coach.
“This was 100% team effort and our boys got out what they put in during practice last week. This is a well-deserved victory. Now we have to continue to improve and prepare for our next match tomorrow at Georgia State.”
The men’s tennis team will take to the court tomorrow, Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. against Georgia State in Atlanta, Ga.
