Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men’s tennis team tallied eight victories in singles and doubles matches on Sunday to conclude action in the spring season-opening FAU Invitational at Patch Reef Park.

Six of the Owls’ victories came against regionally ranked Radford University, including four of the six singles matches completed.

Leading the way was senior Jose Fantova, who earned a straight-set 6-4, 6-1 victory over Nicholas Sayer in the No. 1 singles flight. Sophomore Will Neuner picked up his ninth victory of the 2012-13 season with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Radford’s Thomas Dehaen at No. 2 singles.

Following at No. 3 singles, freshman Andrei Morin-Kougoucheff dropped only three games in defeating Joe Mills 6-1, 6-2, and freshman Matthew Samberg collected his first collegiate victory 6-3, 6-1 over Patrick O’Keefe at No. 4 singles.

FAU battled Indiana University, University of Louisville and Radford in doubles matches during the afternoon session.

The team of sophomore Robert Dubuque and Samberg picked up an 8-6 triumph over Indiana’s Chris Essick and Dimitrije Tasic in the No. 3 flight. Then, Neuner teamed with freshman John Nowak to win 8-5 over the Hoosiers’ No. 4 team.

Against Radford, FAU won two of the three doubles matches. Dubuque and Samberg once again teamed up to win 8-6 in the No. 2 flight. Neuner and Nowak earned a convincing 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles, while sophomore Sean Bacha and Morin-Kougoucheff dropped a tiebreaker, 9-8 (4), to regionally ranked Radford’s team of Sayer and Dehaen.


 

 

FAU begins the spring dual match season on Saturday, January 19 at USF.
