Boca Raton, FL - Freshman Andrei Morin-Kougoucheff picked up his first collegiate victory to highlight the Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team's performance in the opening day of the FAU Invitational on Friday at Patch Reef Park.
"Overall, it was a successful first day in hosting our invitational. All the student-athletes, coaches and fans had a really positive experience," said Brandon Stokes, FAU's head men's tennis coach. "Patch Reef Park did a fantastic job in setting everything up. The weather was fantastic and everything went on schedule."
The four-team invitational features nationally ranked opponents Indiana University and the University of Louisville along with regionally ranked Radford University. The Owls played singles matches on Friday against Indiana and Louisville.
Playing in his second collegiate match, Morin-Kougoucheff rallied to defeat Louisville's Michael Lippens 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 in the No. 4 singles flight.
"It was a very tough match against a nationally ranked team. The match was close and I was able to win the deciding points to win the third set 7-5," said Morin-Kougoucheff. "I gained confidence after winning the second set."
