The Florida Atlantic University men's swimming and diving team took home the top spot in five of the 13 events on Friday afternoon in a dual meet against Clemson University at the FAU Aquatic Center.

The Owls picked up a dual match victory over the University of Findlay by a 193-17 margin. FAU fell in a close match to Clemson University of Atlantic Coast Conference 122-107.

Sophomore swimmer Csaba Pek turned in one of the more dramatic performances of the day in a come-from-behind event victory in the 200-yard freestyle event. The Budapest, Hungary native rallied to pick up a .04 win and just edging out David Gordon of Clemson, who was positioned in the lane right next to Pek. He finished with a time of 1:45.86.

"I got off to a bad start during the 200-yard freestyle because my goggles immediately filled up with water," said Pek. "I was worried that when I turned that they might fall off so I took it a little cautious around the final few turns. I was able to make up ground and the final straightaway just gave it my all."

Pek also finished second in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:52.05 and swam the second leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that also placed second.

Freshman Alex Rodriguez picked up a dominant victory in the 200-yard breaststroke event by two and a half seconds in 2:12.04. Sophomore Henry Samuel finished second as the Owls took the top two spots in the event.

Sophomore Mikolaj Czarnecki won the 200-yard butterfly in 1:57.07. Rounding out the event victories was sophomore Garret LeMon's effort in the 3-meter diving competition. He tallied 222.25 points based on the judge's scores.

The Owls also swept the top three spots in the 200-yard freestyle relay to cap off a successful meet.

"The men competed well against a strong Clemson team today," said Head Coach Steve Eckelkamp. "We will know a lot more in Saturday's meet against Denver and Cincinnati and with the guys still recovering slightly from the hard winter training they have done."

The Owls will return to action on Saturday, December 19 in a triangular meet against Sun Belt Conference foe the University of Denver and the University of Cincinnati. The meet gets underway at 10 a.m. from the FAU Aquatic Center.
