BOCA RATON, FL – Twelve Florida Atlantic swimmers and divers celebrated their final home meet with wins on Saturday.
The men’s team defeated Daytona State College, 168-75. The women, in a tri-meet, easily defeated both FIU (138-103) and Daytona (168-69).
For the men, three different individuals picked up three wins on the day, including two seniors.
Mikolaj Czarnecki was tops in the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.48), the 100-yard butterfly (50.12) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:34.92). Csaba Pek finished first in the 200-yard individual medley (1:52.77), 100-yard backstroke (53.62) and the 100-yard breaststroke (58.11).
Their junior teammate, Eric Williams, won both sprint freestyle events, the 50-yard in 20.77 and the 100-yard in 46.40. He was also the anchor leg of the winning final event, the 200-yard freestyle (1:24.40), with John Walsh, Jacob Ross Gunn, and senior Anthony Fermin.
Walsh also was part of the winning relay team in the men’s opening event, the 200-yard medley relay (1:35.81), along with Gunn, Alan Forbes and Fermin.
Also picking up a first-place individual win was senior Jonathan Van Zee, in the 1000-yard freestyle, with a time of 9:49.37.
Senior Ronald Cortina picked up wins in both diving events. He had top scores of 306.10 on the 1-meter and 343.55 on the 3-meter. The FAU men actually were 1-4 on both boards, with the 1-meter listing Cortina, Gregory Cox, Nick Delong and senior Ryan King, and the 3-meter going Cortina-Delong-Cox-King.
