Florida Atlantic men's soccer will travel to face Stetson on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 5 p.m. in Deland, Fla.
Previous matches: FAU fell 7-2 to in-state conference rival FIU last night. FAU attempted to control the tempo of the game early, but could never really close the gap after FIU’s Paul Marie put one in the back of the net with in the first eight minutes of the game. Florida Atlantic attempted three shots on goal in the first-half coming from Ronald Garcia, Oliver Powers, and Braxton Fuster. None were able to connect as FAU closed out the half trailing 3-0. A goal by Albion Neziri in the 73rd minute gave a late spark to the Owl’s, as Elijah McDonald had an incredible goal three minutes later to make the match 4-2. Ultimately, the Panthers had too much fire power as the game ended with a score of 7-2.
History: The all-time series against Stetson is 22-14-2. The Owls faced the Hatters twice last season, with the first match ending in double overtime tied 1-1. FAU took the lead when senior Ryan Price headed in a rebound in the 43rd minute. Stetson broke through with a header of its own in the 71st minute to tie the score. Stetson had several opportunities to take the lead, but were turned away, thanks in part to Theo Jamilloux's 10 saves.
Stetson won the next match later in the season 4-0. The Hatters got on the board quickly in the 12th minute of play off a goal by Lucas Diniz assisted by Jeppe Moe. They went on to score twice in the 14th minute off another goal by Diniz and a penalty kick to bring them up 3-0. Stetson would go on to score their final goal right over the shoulder of FAU’s Jamilloux in the 52nd minute.
