The FAU men's soccer team has its Mid-American Conference opener on Sunday, as they travel north to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers.
The Owls are 1-4-1 to start the year, with their last match, a scoreless draw against UMKC, ending early due to lightning. Sophomore Deniz Bozkurt has two of the team's five goals, both coming in the August 31 win over Jacksonville. Goalkeeper Jeremy Crumpton has saved an even 80 percent of the shots fired against him, and has two shutouts.
West Virginia is in their first year in the MAC, and was chosen second in the conference's preseason poll. Their 4-2-1 record has led them to a No. 21 national ranking. They have a balanced scoring attack, led by Eric Schoenle's two goals, and seven others with one goal apiece. Their man in the net, senior Pat Eavenson, has a .783 save percentage and has three shutouts.
The match in Morgantown begins at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. The Owls' next match will also be on the road, against Stetson in DeLand, Florida, on Wednesday, before returning to Boca Raton for their first home conference match, against Northern Illinois, September 30 at 10 a.m.
