BOCA RATON, Fla. - Carlos Sanchis (men’s soccer) and Abbi Reid (volleyball) have been named Florida Atlantic University's student-athletes of the week, for the week of Sept. 11.
Sanchis, a sophomore from Madrid, Spain, scored the game winning goal in a 2-1, double overtime win against South Carolina on Saturday night. It was the first victory for new FAU head men’s soccer coach Joey Worthen. This marks the second time this season that Sanchis has won the award.
Reid had her best weekend of the season, despite the Owls’ not playing in their originally scheduled tournament and making a 20-hour bus ride due to Hurricane Irma. She taped 11 kills, three total blocks and a .556 hitting percentage in a sweep of host UNC-Greensboro on Saturday. On Sunday, she had a season-high 15 kills and two total blocks in a sweep of Coastal Carolina, who entered the week No. 34 in the nation in RPI. For the weekend, Reid hit .512 and averaged 4.33 kills/set, racking up 26 total kills. She also compiled five total blocks at a 0.83 blocks/set mark.
Men’s soccer welcomes Old Dominion to Boca Raton at 7 p.m. on Friday. Volleyball will host the FAU Invitational this weekend, with Stetson, Bethune-Cookman and North Dakota State rounding out the field. The Owls’ first match of the weekend will be against Stetson at noon on Friday.
