Men's Soccer Back Home After a Long Road Trip

Sept. 13, 2012

The Florida Atlantic men’s soccer team returns home for the first time in 22 days when they host UMKC on Friday night at the FAU Soccer Stadium.

The squad, now 1-4 on the year, had two-game sets in both Jacksonville and Myrtle Beach over the last two weeks, after opening the season with a 2-1 loss to UCF and having their home match with Bryant rained out.

The trip began on August 31 with the team’s first win of the 2012 season, a 3-0 decision over Jacksonville. Deniz Bozkurt had two goals, and Daniel Mendes added the third. Two days later, the team traveled 11 miles across town to face the University of North Florida, losing 1-0.

This past weekend, the men traveled to Myrtle Beach to take part in the Coastal Carolina Invitational. In their opener there on September 7, against the #18-ranked host school, the Owls were shut out 2-0. The final matchup of the trip took place two days later against Wofford College. The Owls cut the Terriers’ lead to one in the 75th minute when Sean Gossman assisted a goal off the foot of Karol Chorak, but 2-1 would be the final margin. Chorak and goalkeeper Jeremy Crumpton were named to the all-tournament team.

UMKC comes in with a 1-4 record as well. Their lone win came on September 6, 2-1 over Baker. They lost their last match, 1-0 to SIUE on September 9.
