BOCA RATON, FL – The Florida Atlantic Owls men’s soccer team kicks off their 2012 campaign Friday night at home against UCF, at 7 p.m.
The Owls return three players who started all 15 games during last year’s 5-8-2 season, senior goalkeeper Jeremy Crumpton and two defensemen, senior Timothy Merrigan and junior Joachim Hansteen.
The Owls’ returning leading scorer is another defender, junior Lukas Simons, who had two goals a year ago. The co-leader in assists for the Owls, with three (tied with the departed Darnell King), is back as well: redshirt senior midfielder Karol Chorak.
In addition to these players back from last year, the Owls add nine freshmen and, following a year off due to injury, redshirt senior Vincent DiBullo.
UCF is coming off of a stellar 2011 season, a 12-6-3 campaign that saw them ranked as high nationally as #6. They fell in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Leading the Knights’ returnees is preseason all-Conference USA forward McKauly Tulloch, who had 15 goals last season, and was second in C-USA with 34 points scored.
These two teams did not meet last season. They last matched up in 2010, when UCF won on their home field, 4-0.
