BOCA RATON, Fla. – On Friday night, the Florida Atlantic University men’s soccer team faced their final conference opponent in a rain-soaked match in which the Owls were shut out 3-0 by the University of Tulsa Golden Hurricane. The Owls fell to 6-7-2 (1-7-1 C-USA) on the season, while the Golden Hurricane improved to 9-5-3 (4-3-2).
With just 8:56 off the clock, Tulsa put the first goal on the board. Sophomore Ronald Garcia-Hernandez, who led FAU’s offense with three shot attempts, two on goal, responded to the Golden Hurricane goal by ripping a shot but could not beat Tulsa’s keeper.
In the 38th minute, Tulsa scored its second goal, this one coming from the top center of the box. Tulsa’s final goal came in the 64th minute as a high crossing pass was headed into the net.
Joachim Hansteen, Ryan Price and Daniel Montoya each attempted one shot as the Owls collected six shot attempts overall versus Tulsa’s seven. The Golden Hurricane had a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 5-0 lead in corner kicks. Freshman Theo Jamilloux logged all 90 minutes between the posts and picked up three saves.
FAU will host Senior Day on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. as the team concludes their 2013 at home against the Stetson University Hatters. Live stats will be available at www.fausports.com.
