BOCA RATON, FL - The men's soccer team at Florida Atlantic University used a flurry of first half goals to take an early, 3-0, lead and never looked back against Atlantic Sun opponent Belmont University. The Owls got an additional goal in the second half to make the final 4-0, pushing their record to 8-7-1 and 5-2 in A-Sun play. Josh Garbee tallied a goal and assist for FAU, and goalkeeper Anders Granstad recorded the Owls second shutout of the year. Belmont dropped to 7-6, 4-3 in the A-Sun.
Kristoffer Aarskog opened the scoring in the 12th minute with his league-leading 13th goal of the season. Aarskog's goal came courtesy of Bjorn Masson. Masson's pass sailed in high from the right side allowing Aarskog to strike the ball in midair into the net. The pass was the first of two assists on the night for Masson.
The Owls wasted no time in scoring their second goal. Mathew Baum nailed a one-touch goal off a cross from Oerjan Stroeksnes inside the 13th minute. The onslaught continued four minutes later when Garbee settled a pass from Masson and pushed it by the keeper in the 16th minute for his eighth goal of the year.
The Owls wrapped up the scoring at in the 86th minute when Garbee crossed a free kick from the right side into the box. Luka Lau was there to head Garbee's cross into the bottom left corner of the net.
Overall, FAU out shot the Bears 13 to seven.
With the win, FAU moves into a tie for second place with Mercer Unversity. The Owls get a chance to take sole possession of second place in their next game when they play at Mercer October 31.
