DeKalb, IL - A goal in the 40th minute paved the way for the Northern Illinois University Huskies for a 1-0 victory over the Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team in a Mid-American Conference match on Sunday afternoon in DeKalb, Ill.

The Owls stand 5-6-2 on the season and are still looking for its first conference victory with a 0-3-1 record. FAU will return to the pitch on Saturday, October 29, when it hosts the University of Buffalo, starting at 7 p.m. Northern Illinois improves to 10-4-0 overall and 2-2 in league play.

The Huskies' James Stevenson was on the other end of a Jayson LeSeth free kick to score his fifth goal of the season in the 40th minute. That stood up as the game winner, despite a stiff challenge by FAU.

FAU's best offensive chance came in the 86th minute when Sky Cutler drilled a free kick to the near post but NIU goalkeeper Jared Gotsey made a diving save.

The Owls recorded eight of their nine shots in the second half, led by Ramin Rahemi, Darnell King and Martin Nesic with each recording two shots in the match.

Junior goalkeeper Jeremy Crumpton made four saves in net, including three in the second half.  He made a diving effort to stop a penalty kick in the second half to keep the deficit at one goal.
