Macon, GA- - Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team turned in its third strong effort in as many games on Friday evening as the Owls (5-6-2, 2-3-1 A-Sun) battled the Mercer Bears (7-2-1, 3-0-1) to a 1-1 draw. Ran Poliker scored his fourth goal of the season for FAU.
The game was played scoreless for all of the first half and a over 20 minutes of the second half until Mercer's Alan Colgan found the goal in the 66th minute of the game. Colgan took a pass from Mark Donnelly and put the ball in left side of the net for the score.
FAU struck back 11 minutes later as Poliker fired a shot into the upper left corner of the net. Nice passes by Gustavo Alencar and Josh Garbee set up Poliker's goal at the 77:12 mark. For Alencar and Garbee the assists were their third and fifth respectively.
Goal-keeper Anders Granstad turned in a stellar performance rejecting eight shots by Mercer. Granstad currently allows less than 1.2 goals a game.
Before facing FAU, Mercer was 3-0 in league play and had won its previous six games.
The Owls out shot the Bears 18-15 for the game.
