BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University’s men’s soccer team recorded a season high 17 shots in a 2-0 win over the Howard University Bison on Sunday afternoon. The Owls improved their record for the season to 6-1-2.

In 90 minutes of play, the Bison struggled to capitalize on their few offensive opportunities, taking only four shots and two corner kicks. The Owls’ offense managed to get in front of the goal in the first minute of the game when Ryan Price recorded the first shot of the game, which was saved by Howard’s goal keeper. In the following 30 minutes, FAU tallied five shots and four corner kicks however, the game remained scoreless.

In the 36th minute, a corner kick by FAU’s Ronald Garcia led to the Owls’ first goal of the game. Defender Juavanie Cole captured the ball off of Garcia’s corner and crossed it to midfielder Ramon Whittaker, who earned his first goal for the season giving FAU a 1-0 lead.

Just 30 seconds later, Jacob Blanco put the ball behind the defense setting up Jason Fitzgerald for a breakaway goal from the left side of the box, putting the Owls ahead 2-0. The goal was Fitzgerald’s second of the season, tying him with Daniel Montoya for third on the team.

The Bison attempted three shots in the second half, but were unable to capitalize as FAU’s defense held the team scoreless for the rest of the game. The match marked FAU’s first shutout win since Oct. 14, 2012 when they beat Howard 1-0.



FAU entered the game No. 37 in the nation. Goalkeeper Theo Jamilloux saved the only shot he faced on the day. The freshman remains ranked first in the conference for total saves and saves per game.

The Owls will travel to South Carolina for a conference matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. followed by an away game in Albuquerque against New Mexico on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. Live stats for both matches will be available at
