FAU Men's soccer team drops A-Sun match to Stetson 2-1 in double overtime

DeLand, FL - ,DeLand, FL With Stetson University down two players due to red card infractions, Ian Zarac scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime as the Hatters defeated Florida Atlantic 2-1 in a hard-fought Atlantic Sun Conference match.

Joe Fitzpatrick started the play by hitting a free kick along the ground to the left-hand corner of the field. Jason Osborne picked up the pass, dribbled away from three defenders, and sent a cross to the front of the goal mouth where Zarac headed the ball past FAU keeper Jonas Kolstad.

Stetson opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Justin Niemann headed in an indirect kick from Fitzpatrick.

FAU scored with 14 minutes remaining in the match to force overtime. Junior Frans Roenning redirected a cross from sophomore Bjorn Masson for his fourth goal of the season.

FAU senior goalkeeper Jonas Kolstad played the entire match making seven saves. FAU outshot Stetson 22 - 19 for the game.

The loss drops FAU to 4-7 overall and 3-2 in the A-Sun. Stetson moves 8-5 overall and 4-2 in the A-Sun.

FAU returns to action Wednesday, October 17, when they host Jacksonville University. Game time is at 7:30pm.
