Miami, FL - Florida Atlantic University's men's soccer team was defeated by Cal-State Fullerton 3-2 in the third game of the Florida International University Soccer Classic on Sunday afternoon. Josh Garbee scored his second goal in as many days and assisted on Per Kyrk-Astemo's first goal of the season as FAU (3-5-1) scored in the first 10 minutes of the game for the fifth time this season.
The Owls set the tone early when they opened up the game with a goal at 2:45 of the first half. Garbee sent a through ball past the Titan's defense to Kyrk-Astemo who only had the keeper to beat. He shot the ball into the left side of the net for his first goal of the year and second for his career.
CSU-Fullerton (4-4-1) fought back with three goals in eight minutes that sent FAU into a tailspin. Brent Whitfield evened the score at 1-1 in the 21st minute when he shot the ball into an open net after FAU keeper Anders Granstad came out to challenge the ball. Two minutes later Gordon Kljestan scored off of a free kick that sailed over Granstad's head to put the score at 2-1. A penalty kick in the 29th minute put CSU-Fullerton up 3-1.
The Owls did not score again until the 55th minute when Garbee scored on a penalty kick to cut the lead to 3-2. Granstad recorded four saves for FAU.
