DeLAND, FL -The FAU men's soccer team fell in double overtime to in-state rival Stetson on Wednesday night, 2-1.
The Owls took until nearly the last moment of regulation time to tie things up, after the Hatters took a 1-0 lead just after intermission. On a free kick in the 87th minute, senior Vincent DiBullo, coming off a season lost to injury, scored his first career goal to make it a 1-1 game.
After a scoreless first overtime, Stetson got the game-winning goal in the 101st minute of overtime number two. Kai Eckenrode took a pass from Evan Jimmo, and pushed it past Scott Power for the win.
Statistically, the game was extremely even matched. Stetson had 17 shots compared to the Owls' 16, and each team had five corner kicks. The FAU goalkeeping tandem of starter Jeremy Crumpton (four) and Power (five) had nine saves, compared to two for the Hatters' Andrea Schnabi.
The Owls are now 1-6-1 on the year. They're back at home at the FAU Soccer Stadium this Sunday morning, September 30, a 10 a.m. kickoff vs. Mid-American conference opponent Northern Illinois. The Huskies are 1-5-2 thus far this season, and Sunday's match will be their 2012 MAC opener.
