Boca Raton - ,Florida Atlantic Men's soccer team open's Atlantic Sun Conference play with a 3-1 win over Belmont University.
FAU, playing in their first home game of the season, scored a goal in the first half and added two more in the second half for the 3-1 margin.
Junior Frans Roenning led the Owls with 2 goals, while Junior Emiliano Aranes added a goal and an assist. Roenning's first goal came at the 25:11 mark of the first half on a cross from Freshmen Jeremi Isaacs.
In the second half FAU scored two goals in 1:35 to push the lead the 3-0. Roenning scored his second goal of the game and third on the season at the 61:00, on a rebound of a Aranes shot. Aranes (62:35) then scored his third goal of the season as he dribbled through the Belmont defense and pushed a ball by keeper Matt Renfrow.
FAU goalkeeper Jonas Kolstad made 5 saves to gain his second victory on the season. Kolstad lost his shutout on a penalty kick by Belmont's John Martin at the 83:54 mark.
FAU outshot Belmont 24 - 9 for the game.
With the win FAU moves to 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in the A-Sun. Belmont drops to 2-3 and 0-1 in the A-Sun.
FAU's next game is Tuesday, September 25, against the University of South Florida. Game time is at 6pm.
