Peoria, IL - Florida Atlantic University's men's soccer team was defeated by Bradley University 3-2 Friday night as FAU ended its three game unbeaten streak. Kristoffer Aarskog scored his team leading sixth goal of the season while Italo Melo scored his first career goal.
For the third time this season FAU (2-3-1) scored within the game's first 10 minutes as Aarskog, the Atlantic Sun Offensive Player-of-the-Week, scored at 6:48 of the first half. Off of an Owls corner kick, Aarskog headed the rebound in for his fourth goal in four games.
FAU appeared to take control when Melo pushed the lead to 2-0 just 32 seconds before the end of the half. Melo collected a long ball from Bjorn Totland near the top of the penalty area, then made a nifty move by popping the ball over his defender to free himself for his first goal of the season. FAU led by two goals despite being outshot 11-9 in the first half.
The Owls could not hold the lead as Bradley (4-3-0) scored three goals in 15 minutes to put a halt to the team's three game unbeaten streak. Anders Granstad saved five shots as the Braves outshot the Owls 23-17.
FAU returns to action at 6 pm, Eastern Standard Time, against Cornell University on Saturday, September 20. FAU returns home on Friday, October 3 to host Stetson University at 7:30 pm in the team's first conference match of the season. Season ticket packages can still be purchased.
