BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University's men's soccer team defeated the FGCU Eagles on Wednesday night 3-2 in double overtime. The win marked head coach Kos Donev's 200th career win at FAU.
Junior Ryan Price was FAU’s leading scorer tallying three goals over 102 minutes of play, including the game winning goal. Price now has four goals on the season.
FAU put the first point on the board as junior Deniz Bozkurt assisted Price to a goal with a low shot to the right side of the net in the fifth minute of play. During the following 50 minutes FAU and FGCU fought to defend their goals, picking up three yellow cards in the process, two by the Owls.
In the 56th minute, FGCU’s goalkeeper, Nathan Ingham, received a red card due to elbowing. FAU's Price took the penalty kick building the Owls lead to 2-0.
FGCU scored its first point with an unassisted goal from outside the box to the upper right side of the net in the 61st minute. The Eagles penalty kick in the 68th minute of play tied the match at two.
Two minutes into second overtime, FAU junior Daniel Montoya gained possession of the ball and registered the game-winning assist as Price beat FGCU’s keeper.
The 3-2 victory marked the Owls' second win in a row, improving FAU’s regular season record to 2-0-1. Goalkeeper Theo Jamilloux was credited with perserving the win. The freshman faced 19 shots by FGCU and compiled a career high seven saves for the match.
FAU will host FIU in the first Conference-USA match of the season on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m.
